Lodine is a vital, essential trace element and is crucial to our health. Our bodies need iodine to produce hormones in the thyroid. These thyroid hormones are indispensable for many of the body’s metabolic processes such as energy metabolism, cognitive function and the functioning of the nervous system. Between 70% and 80% of any iodine absorbed is used in the thyroid. If you do not have enough iodine, your thyroid will produce too few hormones. Many metabolic processes will be impaired if your hormonal balance is out of kilter due to a lack of iodine. This can throw your whole body off balance.

Since the human body cannot generate iodine itself, it is reliant on absorbing sufficient quantities in our daily diet. However, the iodine content of food is characterised by marked regional fluctuations. It is dependent on the natural level of iodine in the soil and water and on production conditions, such as the fertiliser used for plants and the iodine content in animal feed.

The seaweed used in Iodine Compact comes from organic aquaculture in the waters of the North Atlantic off the Scottish coast. The sustainable harvest involves carefully selecting the right location, using special techniques to cut the seaweed and subsequently drying it and processing it using in-house techniques and tools in state-of-the-art plants designed specially for food. The seaweed is harvested and transported directly to the factory where it is dried at low temperatures to the ensure that as many of the valuable nutrients as possible are retained.
